Pasi took me and Jaakko out in the backcountry. The route was called Glacier du Morte. We started from Brevent and from there we skied to Flegere side. Then we took the Index and Floria lifts to the point where the route begins. First we skied up a bit and when the face got steeper we started bootpacking to the top about 200-300 vertical meters.
From the top we took a traverse towards Col du Berard and then we began the second climbing session. This time the face was a bit longer and steeper (around 300 vertical meters), crampons and axe were needed. I was quite finished when we reached the top. Note to myself: you need to be in shape if you want to do touring in Chamonix.
From the top we took a long ride down to the Vallon de Berard. The snow was nice, there was only a bit too much tracks. Down in the valley we made a quite long traverse in the forest down to the village of Buet. From there we took the train back to Chamonix. Great day!
